Corpus arrives in Granada!

Firstly, we have the Feria de Mediodía, which takes place in the city centre. Some stands are set up in the main squares such as Plaza Bib-Rambla and Plaza del Carmen. One of the most characteristic elements is the Carocas* contest in Plaza Bib-Rambla. It is an ideal plan to warm up before going to the fairgrounds.
Once we enter the fairgrounds of Granada we are immersed in a fantasy world where the festive atmosphere and music envelopes everything. Here is where we find the main protagonists, the "casetas", many and very different although with something in common, good music, food and drink. You can enjoy everything from the most classic tapas to more elaborate dishes, they are finger-licking good. An atmosphere that invites you to dance and sing non-stop.
The Corpus Fair in Granada would not be complete without its thrilling amusement rides! From the classic Ferris wheel that offers panoramic views of the city to the thrilling roller coasters that challenge the bravest of the brave. The younger ones can enjoy the colourful carousels. In addition to this, there are countless tombolas and skill games. There is something for everyone at this fair!
One of the most fun and expected moments will take place on Wednesday 29th May, is the parade of the Tarasca, in which a sculpture of a woman on a dragon, accompanied by giants and big-heads, is paraded. Each year the costume of the Tarasca changes and is designed by local stylists. It departs from Granada's city hall at 12:00 noon and passes through many of the city's main streets. A unique spectacle that is sure to make you laugh.

*Do you know what Carocas are?
Granada's humour has its own idiosyncrasy, in Granada jokes are told with a straight face, as if it wasn't a joke, perhaps to throw people off the scent. But if there is one thing that expresses the fun character of the people of Granada, it is the Carocas. During the days of the Corpus Christi Fair, large banners are displayed in the central Plaza Bibarrambla with popular "quintillas" that reflect the current affairs of the city with irony in drawings and caricatures. The ones chosen as the best in the competition for their originality and suspiciousness are exhibited. What a good excuse to visit the city centre and enjoy the "casetas" in the centre, right?
