GRANADA: CITY AND SKI BREAK

Tourism Granada
Fun and culture. Why not have it all in one getaway?

Granada, as well as being considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is completely privileged by its location, as it lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and it is only 40 minutes away from the coast.

Sierra Nevada is one of the best destinations in Spain for snow lovers, offering a variety of ski slopes for all levels with spectacular views. It has 131 ski slopes with more than 110 kilometres and a total vertical drop of 1,200 metres. In this article we offer you a quick guide about the 4 sectors of Sierra Nevada ski resort:

Pradollano.
At 2,100 metres above sea level, in the heart of the mountains of Granada, you will find this town, ranked as the highest in the Iberian Peninsula. This is where it all starts for a great day's skiing, as it is the access point to the slopes, which stretch along the stunning Sierra Nevada mountains. Pradollano is the perfect place to start the day's skiing as it has numerous catering and equipment hire facilities, surrounded by picturesque architecture and spectacular natural surroundings. Ideal for skiers to take a break, and also for families and non-skiers to enjoy the snow.

Borreguiles.
It is one of the most outstanding sectors of Sierra Nevada ski resort, where we can find a wide and diverse set of slopes, from the easiest to some much more challenging, perfect for lovers of skiing and snowboarding. Located at 2,700 metres above sea level, it will amaze you with its beauty and majesty. Borreguiles can be accessed from Pradollano via two cable cars, Al-Andalus (standing) and Borreguiles (seated). It also has several restaurants where to regain your strength while contemplating an incomparable panoramic view. You can't miss this beautiful place in Sierra Nevada!

Loma de Dílar.
This is one of the most charming corners of Sierra Nevada ski resort, truly captivating for mountain lovers. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 2,500 metres above sea level. If you prefer to avoid crowds, Loma de Dílar is your best choice, famous for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy more relaxed skiing. It also has slopes for all levels skiers, from beginners who want to polish their skills to experts looking for a challenge. And if snowboarding is your thing, we have good news, because Loma de Dílar hosts the Sulayr snowpark. Without a doubt a very complete sector, perfect for families and all kinds of skiers.

Laguna de las Yeguas.
At an altitude of approximately 2,900 metres above sea level, it is the highest sector, next to Veleta peak. Its name comes from a small lagoon located in the area that adds a scenic touch to the skiing experience. This sector is known for offering a unique and spectacular experience. Some of the most challenging and exciting slopes in Sierra Nevada start from here, highlighting "La Olímpica" and "El Águila". It offers a wide variety of terrain, with steep slopes and long runs to test your skills, making it a paradise for more advanced skiers looking for a challenge.

After a hard day's skiing, you need to get your strength back. Is there a better place in the world for this than Granada? Full of magical places like the Alhambra, the Cathedral, the Carmen de los Mártires, the Paseo de los Tristes, and many more, Granada is the perfect place to complete your ski break.

Furthermore, Granada also has a wide range of high quality gastronomy. You can enjoy Granada's famous and traditional "tapas" in restaurants and bars all over the city. I bring you 3 recommendations:

María de la O Restaurant.
A cuisine inspired by the products of Granada, with a focus on marinades, sauces and spices. The spoon becomes a fundamental element to enjoy the range of flavours and broths created by the chef, Chechu González.
The gastronomic proposal of María de la O is located in one of the most beautiful urban areas of Granada, the Paseo del Salón and Paseo de la Bomba. Located at the beginning of Carretera de la Sierra, in a beautiful 19th century mansion, it houses a very versatile offer in different indoor and outdoor spaces.

Kiosko Las Titas
One of the most frequented spaces by locals. The excellent gastronomy offered by the restaurant, together with the history and architecture of the place, make it a spectacular setting in which to enjoy art, both spatial, architectural and, of course, gastronomic. All the flavour of Mediterranean gastronomy, full of the nuances provided by the traditional Grenadian recipes that have been elaborated over the years.

Paco Martín Restaurant.
Specialising in local gastronomy, enriched with creative touches. With special emphasis on Andalusian and Grenadian cuisine. It is located in the heart of the city, in the Carrera de la Vigen promenade.

To carry out such a complete plan we would need a hotel perfectly connected to the mountain road and the city centre. The best option is, without a doubt, Hotel Abades Nevada Palace ****, where comfortable and perfectly equipped rooms will offer you a pleasant stay. This beautiful hotel is strategically located with direct access to the Sierra Nevada road and 2 minutes away from the metro stop that will take you to the city centre in just a few minutes.

Do you prefer to stay in the city centre? Abades Recogidas Hotel****, modern and cosy, is located in Recogidas street, the most commercial street in Granada.

Moreover, Skiers like you are in luck as we have a special offer for you, which includes accommodation, breakfast and picnic. Click here to have a look at this offer. I wish you a getaway full of adventure and excitement!
